Home / Paid family caregiver program
Care for someone you love, with the support of a licensed agency
A familiar caregiver can bring comfort, consistency and trust. Depending on the participant's program, service location and eligibility, a relative, friend or trusted person may be able to become a paid caregiver through Compassion Home Care.
Four steps, in the order they actually happen
Our team helps with agency onboarding, required documentation, screening, training, scheduling and visit records. The state program or managed care organization determines participant eligibility, authorized services and approved hours.
-
Contact our office
Tell us about the participant, their location, current coverage and the person who would like to provide care.
-
Review program requirements
We explain the documents and agency requirements that may apply. Some relationships or legal roles are restricted under program rules.
-
Complete onboarding
Eligible caregivers complete required screening, training, competency verification and employment documents.
-
Begin authorized care
Work can begin only after required approvals, onboarding and scheduling are complete.
Be careful with promises you read elsewhere. No agency can guarantee that a family member will be approved, or approve the number of paid hours. Those decisions belong to the program or health plan. We will tell you what we know and what still has to be confirmed.
A familiar face, with an agency behind it.
A relative who already knows the routines, the language and the household does not need a settling-in period. What they usually do need is the structure around them: payroll, training, supervision, timekeeping and someone to call when something changes.
That is the part we handle. You keep the relationship, we carry the paperwork.
What to have ready.
- Participant name, address and telephone number
- Date of birth and preferred language
- Current Medicaid or waiver information
- Managed care organization, if known
- Current service authorization or supports coordinator information, if available
- The type of daily assistance needed
- The relationship between the participant and the proposed caregiver
Family caregiver questions
Can anyone become a paid family caregiver?
No. Eligibility depends on the participant's program, the caregiver's relationship or legal role, screening requirements and other rules.
Does Compassion Home Care decide the number of paid hours?
No. Approved services and hours are determined through the participant's assessment, care plan and applicable payer authorization.
Can care begin immediately?
Care begins after eligibility, authorization and all required agency onboarding steps are complete.
What information should I prepare?
Have the participant's name, address, telephone number and coverage information ready, along with the current program or health plan if known, and the proposed caregiver's relationship to the participant.
